The Craigwell Hotel
Wake up to the beauty of Morecambe Bay

Local Wildlife & Conservation

At the Craigwell we only have a small garden, but still do our best to encourage birds, bees and butterflies by planting suitable plants and using feeders etc. and we grow wild flowers from seed in pots at the rear. We've taken advantage of the parapet outside our newly refurbished suite on the 3rd floor and planted this with bird attracting species. We always have a pair of binoculars at the ready by the bay window in the lounge for birdwatching, and books for identification.

Just to the rear of our property, along church lane is Morecambe cemetery. We walk the dog through here most days and almost regard it is our garden  - it's a hive of wildlife activity and great for listening to birdsong. Of recent years however it has been in a sorry state of repair due to vandalism and general misuse. Now however the Friends of Poulton Cemeteries working together with Lancaster City Council have taken over the management and conservation of this important piece of land. Gill is a member of the executive committee. Hopefully this will become an amenity that our guests will enjoy visiting.

It's also worth visiting Happy Mount Park - just about a mile's level walk along the prom.
